Omer Ben-Shachar is an award-winning writer/director who enjoys telling honest, character-driven stories centered around the search for identity.
Omer’s debut short film, Tree #3, won a Student Academy Award, Urbanworld’s Best Young Creator Award, Palm Springs’ Audience Award, and was nominated for a Student Emmy, among others. His follow-up short, Single Residence Occupancy, won the Academy Award-Qualifying Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Atlanta Film Festival and was named the first-place winner of Imagine Entertainment, Adobe and The Film Zone’s From Minutes to Movies ShortFest competition. His latest film, Houston, We Have a Crush, is now on the festival circuit, with selections including Palm Springs, SXSW Sydney, NewFest, Austin, Urbanworld, Heartland, HollyShorts, and St. Louis, among others, and has recently earned top prizes at Leeds, Guadalajara, and Sulmona.
Omer has directed music videos and commercials featured in Rolling Stone, Billboard, Nowness, Directors’ Library and at the Hammer Museum’s Flux Series. His work has earned recognition from The One Club for Creativity’s Young Guns, multiple Vimeo Staff Picks, a Webby Award, and a Cannes Lions Young Directors Award nomination. His commerical clients include Microsoft, Rakuten Viki, Honkai: Star Rail, Bayer, and more.
Omer has been a directing and writing fellow in several prestigious programs, including Film Independent’s Screenwriting Lab and Project Involve, Warner Bros. TV Directors’ Workshop, and Paramount’s Viewfinder Program. Omer is a graduate of the American Film Institute’s Directing Program, where he was awarded the Richard P. Rogers Spirit of Excellence Award. Omer is a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences as well as a BAFTA Connect Member.
