Omer Ben-Shachar is an award-winning writer/director who enjoys telling honest, character-driven stories centered around the search for identity. His work has been supported by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, BAFTA, Film Independent, the American Film Institute, Warner Bros., Paramount, Forbes, and the Television Academy.

Omer’s debut short film, Tree #3, won a Student Academy Award, Urbanworld’s Best Young Creator Award, Palm Springs’ Audience Award, was nominated for a Student Emmy, and screened at over 60 festivals around the world. His short Single Residence Occupancy won first place at the Imagine Entertainment & Adobe ShortFest and the Academy Award-Qualifying Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Atlanta Film Festival. His latest film, Houston, We Have a Crush, premiered at the 2025 Palm Springs ShortFest and is now on the festival circuit, with selections including SXSW Sydney, Austin Film Festival, Urbanworld, NewFest, Leeds, Guadalajara Film Festival in Los Angeles, and St. Louis, among others.

Beyond his narrative work, Omer has directed music videos that have been featured in Rolling Stone, Billboard, and at the Hammer Museum’s Flux Series, earning multiple Vimeo Staff Picks, a Webby Award, and a Cannes Lions YDA nomination. Omer has directed commercial work for clients such as Microsoft, Rakuten Viki, Honkai: Star Rail, Bayer, and more.

Omer has been a directing and writing fellow in several prestigious programs, including Film Independent’s Screenwriting Lab, Film Independent’s Project Involve, Warner Bros. TV Directors’ Workshop, and Paramount’s Viewfinder Program. Omer is a graduate of the American Film Institute’s Directing Program, where he was awarded the Richard P. Rogers Spirit of Excellence Award. Omer is a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences as well as a BAFTA Connect Member.
